Eye exams

A full eye exam, and a look at your tears too

A comprehensive exam checks how well you see and how healthy your eyes are. It is for glasses, contact lenses and for finding problems early.

Because we see so many people with dry eyes, a dry eye check is part of how we look at every eye. If it turns up something, we tell you, and we book a dry eye evaluation if you want one.

  • Your vision, and the prescription for glasses or contact lenses

  • Eye pressure and the health of the front and back of the eye

  • A look at your tear film and eyelids

  • Time to ask questions

What happens

Your visit, step by step

  1. 01

    Step 1: Check in

A short chat about your eyes, your health and how you use them. Bring your glasses and contact lenses.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Measurements

Dariush or Dr. Cullen measure how your eyes focus, and check eye pressure and the front of the eye.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The exam

Dr. Cullen checks your vision, looks at the health of your eyes and answers your questions.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Your prescription

If you need glasses or lenses, you get your prescription in writing and can fill it anywhere. Your prescription is yours.

How often

When to book

  • Most adults

Every one to two years, or as Dr. Cullen advises.

  • Contact lens wearers

Every year, so we can check the fit and how your eyes are doing in lenses.

  • Screen workers

When your eyes feel tired, dry or strained, or when your glasses no longer feel right.

Before you come

  • How it is billed

A routine exam is billed to your vision plan. If we look at a problem such as dry eye during the visit, that part is billed to your medical insurance. We explain the split before you pay.

    How fees work
  • What to bring

Your glasses, your contact lenses and their cases, a list of the medicines and drops you use, and your insurance cards.

  • Who you see

Dr. Joyce Cullen, with Dariush Mahdi taking your measurements first.
